It’s really no surprise that I got into cycling.

You see, my father and my three other uncles all cycle. They even did it professionally.

I don’t have the luxury my father and uncles have cycling along the Swiss mountains. They have such incredible and breathtaking views. Ontario isn’t so bad, but it’s not quite like the Swiss mountains!

Then again I don’t have such steep climbs either, so I think I have it better! Haha.

When I was young, my father would always take our family on bike trips. My mother and sister were not into it as much as my father and I were but when we finished we all were happy we went.

The one important lesson my father taught me, was one that you’d least expect when it comes to cycling.

He taught me to always make sure you wipe down your bike when you’re done with your ride for the day. No matter how out of breath or tired you were, this was a very important lesson. All the dust and dirt needed to come off.

I try to go once a week, or whenever I have some free time. I like to go either by myself or with some friends.  Sometimes, the more the merrier.

I like to mix it up, too. Sometimes I’ll feel like going off-terrain, and I get my gravel tires on. It definitely makes it a bit more challenging and the scenery is completely different when you’re off road. Usually, when I ride with friends, we’ll stay on the road.

We enjoy the Islington path from Woodbridge to Kleinberg.  Then we like to ride around and explore the neighborhoods. Check out the nice homes in some areas, then we head back.

Our route can sometimes be long and take up half the day, usually, we aim for 40 to 80 km at a time. By the end, we’re out of breath, but it’s well worth it.
